Seminario de Desarrollo Tecnológico

Martes 25

Titulo: Local Extinction of Critical Multitype Branching Systems with Long-Living Particles
Ponente: Dr. Peter Kevei
Lugar: Salón Diego Bricio Hernández
Hora: 13:00 hrs.
Resumen: We consider a random population in Rd, composed of individuals of a finite number of types. Each individual of type i moves independently according to a symmetric alpha-stable motion and at the end of its life it branches, leaving behind a random number of offspring particles of all types which appear where the parent individual died. We assume that the lifetime and offspring distributions are type-dependent, and that the branching is critical, i.e. the Perron root of the mean matrix is 1.

Starting from an infinite population, we investigate conditions under which this branching process suffers local extinction, or possesses a non-trivial limiting distribution. In this talk, we report on our extinction results which presently cover the cases when:

(1) All the particle lifetimes have finite mean, or

(2) There is exactly one long-living type, i.e. a type whose lifetime distribution has heavy tail, and the other lifetimes have finite mean.

We get a more complex dynamics by assuming in case (2) that the most mobile particle type corresponds to a finite-mean lifetime: besides the fertility, mobility and the parameter of the heavy-tailed lifetime (and even the mobility parameter of the long-living type) have an effect on the extinction properties of our system.
