Woodworking in Hacienda Durán (Guanajuato, Mexico)

The shop

The shop is located in the garden of Don Agusto Morrill, in an old building (17th cent) which I helped Agusto fix.
I share the shop with Agusto's daughter Olga (she makes toys and decorations). This is a view of "my" part.
This is a sketch for my lumber rack, seen on the previous picture.

The Band Saw

This is a very nice band-saw that I bought from an Italian company called Meber. It is also sold in the USA by a company called Laguna Tools. This is one of their simplest models (called PROFESSIONAL P400) and is perfect for a small workshop: quiet, solid, simple to use, can resaw up to 30cm wide boards, uses 110 volts and is mono-phase. I use it all the time.
Here I resaw a beautiful piece of cedro rojo (red cedar) from Vera-Cruz that my friend Ramon gave me. I am going to make from it a backgammon set.
Here I am resawing some fresno (ash). I am using a simple guide that is built around the heavy-duty guide that Meber sells for the saw, basicaly a big L-shaped piece of 3/4" plywood attached to the Meber guide, which you can't see in the picture because the plywood extension hides it. The standard guide that comes with the saw is not so good and it is worth getting the special heavy-duty guide.
