Coloquio
Miércoles 7

Titulo: Rubberband algorithms: A general strategy for efficient solutions of euclidean shortest path problems
Ponente: Dr. Reinhard Klette, University of Auckland, New Zealand
Lugar: Salón Diego Bricio Hernández
Hora: 16:00 hrs.
Resumen: Algorithms for solving shortest path problems in 2D or 3D Euclidean space are typically either solvable in linear time, or of higher order time complexities, often even NP-hard. Rubberband algorithms follow a general design strategy which is relatively simple to implement assuming a step set has been identified which contains the vertices of shortest paths, and is easily calculable itself. An accuracy constant can be selected defining the maximum possible numeric accuracy on a given computer, and converging Cauchy sequences of approximating paths can be calculated where termination is defined by the chosen accuracy only. These algorithms have been studied in detail, and the talk informs about various issues, which range from basic questions of solvability by radicals over the field of rational numbers, to experimental results demonstrating implemented solutions.

Seminario de Probabilidad
Miércoles 7

Titulo: The McKean stochastic game for a spectrally negative Lévy process: from a point to an interval
Ponente: Erik Baurdoux, London School of Economics, UK
Lugar: Salón Diego Bricio Hernández
Hora: 13:00 hrs.
Resumen: We consider the McKean optimal stopping game (which can be thought of as a two-player version of the American put option) driven by a spectrally negative Lévy process X (no positive jumps).  It was previously shown that the optimal stopping region for the minimiser is either a single point or an interval. This phenomenon is closely related to whether or not X first crosses a certain level continuously (creeping). The more subtle case arises when X has a Gaussian component. In this case we characterise when the optimal stopping region for the minimiser is an interval and we also find an expression for it. This talk is based on joint work with Kees van Schaik.
