Seminario de geometría diferencial y sistemas dinámicos, CIMAT Fecha y lugar: Lunes, 23 sept, 2019, 4pm, Salón Diego Bricio Título: Collision orbits of the 3-body problem with strong force via the Jacobi-Maupertuis principle - Part 1 (of 2) Por: Connor Jackman, CIMAT Abstract: The Jacobi-Maupertuis principle provides a useful connection between dynamics and geometry: the orbits of a natural mechanical system at fixed energy are reparametrized as geodesics of a certain metric. In this talk (the 1st of two) I will present some nice properties of the Jacobi-Maupertuis metric associated to the dynamics of N point masses under 'strong force', proportional to the inverse cube of the mutual distances. Then I will use methods from hyperbolic geometry to show the existence of a new class of orbits of the 3-body problem with strong force.
