I studied at the Undergraduate School of Physics and Mathematics (ESFM-IPN) in Mexico City, where I obtained a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Physics in 1988.

I carried my graduate studies at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Chicago. I obtained the M.Sc. degree in 1990 and the Ph.D. degree in 1994. My Ph.D. Thesis advisor was Robert J. Zimmer.
