APPLIED MATHEMATICS

Researchers of  Applied Mathematics  have contributed in the systematic, transversal and multidisciplinary interaction with other scientific areas of CIMAT, as well as in the resolution of problems of local and national social incidence, without neglecting quality research. Proof of this are the journals where researchers from this area have published in collaboration with researchers from other areas.    Examples of top level journals where they publish:

Vision: To be a reference in research in Applied Mathematics, the formation of high level professionals and the participation in linkage projects for the solution of national problems of social impact and relevance.

About

In this research line, algorithms are developed, their qualitative properties and their efficiency are studied through quantitative validation. It also covers the optimal implementation of algorithms by means of parallelization techniques for the resolution of problems derived from applied sciences and engineering. Computationally, algorithms have been developed for macroscopic and microscopic models.

About

The purpose of this research line is the modeling and the analysis of biological phenomena with mathematical tools. It includes the use of differential equations, discret dynamics, statistical and computational techniques which necessary for a good understanding of the phenomenon under study. Recent emphasis has been on the study of epidemiological models, population dynamics and control, and chemotaxis phenomena.

About

This line of research is fundamental to evaluate the reliability and accuracy of mathematical models. The problem of predicting measurements of a physical system is known as modeling problem, simulation problem or direct problem. On the other hand, inverse problems involve using real measurements of a physical system to infer the values of the parameters that characterize it.

About

At present, Game Theory is cultivated within this line. As an example, the behavior of economic agents is studied in cooperative games, in mechanism design, in strategy games, and in voting. Ways of sharing joint profits or sharing common costs in a fair way are proposed. Solutions are characterized axiomatically.

POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMS

Since the creation of the graduate programs in Sciences with  specialty in Applied Mathematics, the Applied Mathematics research group has served as its basic academic nucleus. The graduate programs have had constant updates since their creation. The last of them was in 2020 when the master’s degree in Applied Mathematics was updated to give it an interdisciplinary approach, integrating courses associated to the other areas of CIMAT; incorporating in the master’s degree, the transversality that was already being carried out by the group in research, in co-direction of theses and in liaison projects.

The training of students at the graduate level in applied mathematics is a central activity that is common to all researchers in the area and has had a great quantitative and qualitative impact on the strengthening of the scientific, technological and innovation community. Throughout the years, students from different states of Mexico have graduated from the graduate program, as well as students from other countries including Cuba, Colombia, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. In particular, in the last 5 years, 37 master’s students and 10 doctoral students have graduated from these programs.

The research group currently maintains local collaborations with:
  • Universidad de Guanajuato
