Academics

At CIMAT you can study, bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate, in a highly competitive scientific research environment and with an academic plant of excellence that combines teaching with high-quality research and an important academic position at a national and international level.

Doctorate

The objective of the Doctoral programs is to provide students with solid foundations on which a strong specialization is based. Doctoral programs facilitate and promote students to develop their own thinking skills and professionalization in their mathematical areas.

Our students receive orientation and training to choose their area of specialization and to understand its cutting-edge lines and problems, along with support for their original research processes that enrich the chosen fields.

In addition to serving as high-level professionals in formulating mathematical solutions to a wide variety of problems in basic and applied science, doctoral students gain experience in academic environments for teaching and own research and in multidisciplinary teams.

This experience extends to collaboration with the public and private sectors, as well as training for senior management positions that require the highest levels of preparation.

The Doctorate in Science programs are research-oriented and offer four specialty areas, all of them registered in the CONAHCYT National Postgraduate System. CIMAT has four doctoral level programs, which are:

· Doctorate in Sciences with Orientation in Basic Mathematics

· Doctorate in Sciences with Orientation in Applied Mathematics

· Doctorate in Sciences with Orientation in Probability and Statistics

· Doctorate in Sciences with Orientation in Computer Science

Master’s Degrees

The Research-oriented Master of Science Degree programs offer several specialty areas, and are registered in the National Postgraduate System of CONACHYT.

In CIMAT, tenured professors teach all courses in the graduated programs. Most of them are members of the National Researchers System (Sistema Nacional de Investigadoras e Investigadores (SNII)). The ordinary researchers, along with visiting scholars and postdocs the Center regularly receives, contribute to the education of students and extend their scientific perspective.

Profesionalizing Master’s Degrees

Profesionalizing Master’s Degrees aim to help students develop abilities and skills to link to the labor and productive sectors.  Their objective is to form professionals through a deepening of their grasp of the literature and state of the art techniques in their respective areas of knowledge.  At CIMAT, some of the courses are shared amongst campuses and programs, allowing students from the whole system to benefit from them.  These programs are taught in different campuses of CIMAT.

Bachelor’s Degrees

Training of professionals in mathematics and computer science at the undergraduate level plays an important role in the development of the country and the well-being of its citizens. Since 1983, CIMAT has worked on this, creating a Bachelor’s degree program in Mathematics, which is offered through an agreement with the University of Guanajuato, currently
through its Department of Mathematics (Demat).

The Bachelor’s Degree in Computing is now also offered under the same scheme. Both programs have obtained recognition that goes beyond the national level, by training graduates who access postgraduate programs of an excellence level. Nationally, the institutions that receive CIMAT-DEMAT graduates in their postgraduate courses include UNAM and CIMAT itself. Beyond our borders, graduates of our bachelor’s degrees are in postgraduate programs at institutions such as the Courant Institute, New York University; at Cornell University, Princeton and Harvard, in the United States, as well as at the IMPA in Brazil and at the Freie Universität, in Berlin, Germany.

Together with DEMAT Researchers, CIMAT staff participate in the training of undergraduate students, becoming part-time professors at the University of Guanajuato.

Likewise, DEMAT’s services and infrastructure are complemented by CIMAT’s resources: auditorium, classrooms and seminars, as well as CIMAT’s own library, one of the most important libraries specialized in mathematical areas in our country.
